Zlín as Bata's American Dream
"Zlín, thanks to the legacy of Tomáš Bata, has always embodied the Czech version of the American dream of success. The modern form of the city was created thanks to Bata on the drawing boards of the best architects and urban planners of his time," says Zlín Mayor Jiří Korec.
"Zlín is a city built on the seemingly utopian idea that there can be a place where work and life are in harmony. You can see for yourself how this has been realised from the vantage point of the 21st building of the so-called Bata skyscraper. From the terrace, you will not only get a glimpse of the entire factory site and the city centre, but you will also be impressed by the view of the typical brick Bata houses scattered in the greenery on the hillsides." Korec continued.
"The restored T. Bata Memorial, an architectural gem of international importance, is among the landmarks of Zlín, and the original Villa Tomáš Bata hosts many interesting events. I am glad that we are part of a project that will introduce all Bata sites to tourists on one platform," added the Mayor of Zlín.
Transparent connection of places with Bata themes
"The most important benefit of the project is the fact that for the first time ever, representatives of all organizations dealing with the Bata theme met. Already the first joint activities of the Bata region project present the topic to the public in a comprehensive and attractive way," says Jana Tkadlecová, manager of the Zlín and Luhačovicko destination Jana Tkadlecová.
Tourists and day trippers will no longer have to look for information in different places, but will have it clearly sorted and updated in one online signpost, where the new visual identity of the Bata Region will also be presented.
The Bata Region will present not only a new website but also a paper guide to Bata places on the web and in a printed guidebook in the coming days. The brochure will be available in information centres and at hotel receptions.
The printed guide presents not only the city of Zlín, but also the unique Bata Canal waterway, the satellites of the shoemaking empire Otrokovice and Napajedla, as well as the town of Luhačovice, where Tomas Bata and his family used to go to the spa.
"In the first phase, we have been working on mapping our local destinations and attractions that a tourist can cover when visiting the Zlín Region. As we know that the Bata region has no borders, in the next steps we want to recommend to tourists to visit also the so-called small Zlín, Bata enclaves that were created all over the world on the model of Zlín." adds project manager Žaneta Kögler.

Luhačovice wants to protect its historical centre
The town of Luhačovice is planning a building closure in the area of the historic core. The measure is intended to temporarily protect architecturally valuable sites from unregulated construction until the new zoning plan comes into force. The building closure is to apply to the spa colonnade or Jurkovič Avenue towards the Luhačovice dam. In other locations, on the other hand, the city is ready to support new construction.
