Radars will measure drivers' speed in Petrůvka and Biskupice

Last update: July 3, 2025

Driver was travelling at 123 km/h through Petruvka

The aim of the new measures is not to fine drivers, but to make traffic calmer and safer.

"We had a traffic survey done right in the middle of the village. The results showed that up to 81% of vehicles were not obeying the speed limit. We consider the highest measured values - 123 km/h towards Luhačovice and 115 km/h towards Slavičín - to be very alarming," said the mayor of Petrůvka, Zdenka Slaníková.

She also pointed out that the municipality does not have marked pedestrian crossings, which poses an increased risk especially for children and the elderly.

"I believe radar will work primarily as a preventative measure. It will force drivers to slow down and increase safety for all residents of our community," the mayor added.

Three accidents in Biskupice

The same problems are also being faced in Biskupice, where frequent speeding has been complained about by residents of the village themselves, who are concerned for their safety.

"Last year, we recorded three traffic accidents here in a short period due to speeding. Fortunately without serious consequences," said Biskupice Mayor Rostislav Kandrnál.

Two radars in Biskupice, one in Petrůvka

The locations for the radars were determined by the Police of the Czech Republic after consultation with the leadership of both municipalities.

"Two radars will be placed in Biskupice - one on the access road towards Kaňovice, the other on the access road from Luhačovice. In Petrůvka, the speed will be measured by a radar at the local cultural centre," said Luhačovice spokeswoman Hana Srncová.

The test regime will begin the week of July 7, with full operation planned for the end of the month.

The installation of the radars cost CZK 2.4 million and was financed by Luhačovice as a municipality with extended competence, under which the municipalities of Petrůvka and Biskupice fall.
