At first glance, little Ester looks like a healthy child full of life. But she's not. As her mother Hanka confessed, before she came to Luhačovice with her daughter, Esterka looked more like an autistic child. Mentally, she was at the level of a two-year-old child and could not even go potty. After a four-week stay at the Luhačovice spa, everything changed. Not only did Esterka go potty, but she also stopped being afraid of doctors and, most importantly, the physiotherapists there managed to turn the clumsy little girl into a girl who can do not only cartwheels, but also group exercises.
Little Esterka's suffering began right after she was born. She developed inflammation in her bile ducts, and bile was not draining from her liver as it should. As a result, she was losing weight, her skin turned yellow, and she had digestive problems. "The first operation secured the flow in her bile ducts, but unfortunately despite this the doctors told us that a liver transplant was very likely. This was and still is a major life test for me as a mother. You have your first child and instead of being happy, you are constantly wondering how everything will turn out, absorbing a lot of information about the disease, experiencing repeated trips to hospitals and great fear... but you have to keep up," said Esther's mother.
Despite initially doing well after her liver transplant, the girl developed a thrombosed hepatic vein on the eighth day after the procedure, and the cycle repeated itself. "Esther was in an artificial sleep and for thirteen days it was impossible to wake her up, but fortunately after the third attempt it was possible," recalled her mother Hanka. Everything went well after that, and after a month Ester was able to go home from the hospital, and today she is being monitored by a gastroenterologist and has also had a stay in a spa.
Ester was brought to Luhačovice by a lucky coincidence. It was not easy at all. "In the first year after the transplant, the child is not allowed to go out at all, so the hepatologist could not recommend us for spa treatment, but the Ministry of Health offers a stay only in the first year after the transplant. Ironically, we were unlucky in the end, because we finally got a spa for atopic eczema...," confided Hanka's mother.
The four-week stay in the Miramonti hospital in Luhačovice had more than a positive effect on Esterka. "You can see an incredible improvement in Esterka, not only physically, but especially mentally. Although Esterka practically did not speak before, in the last few days she even said 'thank you' after her favourite treatment. The nurse and I stood there wondering if we had misheard. Before coming to Luhačovice, Ester also suffered from white coat syndrome. And now, when the therapist comes to see her, for example, she waves at him from the other end of the corridor. The progress is simply enormous," said Hanka's mother.

Luhačovice wants to protect its historical centre
The town of Luhačovice is planning a building closure in the area of the historic core. The measure is intended to temporarily protect architecturally valuable sites from unregulated construction until the new zoning plan comes into force. The building closure is to apply to the spa colonnade or Jurkovič Avenue towards the Luhačovice dam. In other locations, on the other hand, the city is ready to support new construction.
