But at night and in the morning, temperatures drop relatively low below freezing. For example, the Luhačovice dam has a visually nice ice surface.
"Just that visually, but a centimeter is definitely not enough, here in this way of wonderful winter movement, those interested must pay attention to safety," is quite clear spokeswoman of the regional firefighters Lucie Javoříková, adding that it is good to use the established rule, which can be characterized as 5+5+10.
Translated, the rule is that for safe skating on frozen natural bodies of water, temperatures should not exceed minus five degrees even in the afternoon for at least five days and ice should be at least ten centimetres thick.
"It also depends on how the reservoir is supplied with water, what the inflow is and how steep it is, that plays a very important role," reminds the fire spokesperson.
"It is certainly true that as boys we used to take advantage of the opportunity to play hockey, for example at the Zlín dam, but also directly on the Dřevnice River much more than we do today," recalls Arnošt Hošek, a Zlín resident. "There were certainly colder winters, but again, I don't think we always had the whole winter to get through. But it's a fact that we used every frozen area, one of them was in a hole dug for a swimming pool, which never came into being, at Zlín's Januštica," Hošek recalls.
The lakes that are created in the forests between Otrokovice and Tlumačov are interesting, and you can skate there in good times. While the oasis of healthy exercise in the town of 17,000, Gravel Hill certainly did not offer its lovers an icy face this year, and as it seems, with the expected influx of warmer air, it just won't.

Luhačovice wants to protect its historical centre
The town of Luhačovice is planning a building closure in the area of the historic core. The measure is intended to temporarily protect architecturally valuable sites from unregulated construction until the new zoning plan comes into force. The building closure is to apply to the spa colonnade or Jurkovič Avenue towards the Luhačovice dam. In other locations, on the other hand, the city is ready to support new construction.
