The aim of the award is to highlight positive examples in heritage conservation and to thank those who contribute to the preservation of cultural heritage. A jury of experts comprising members of the scientific board of the National Heritage Institute, the International Council on Monuments and Sites and other collaborating institutions selected from 23 nominations in four main categories. In the category of Monument Restoration/Restoration, the committee awarded Lázně Luhačovice, a.s., for the restoration of the spa colonnade with the Vincentka Hall. "We are doubly pleased with the award from the conservationists themselves, because it was not always easy to reconcile our ideas with their requirements during the reconstruction." says E. Bláha, CEO of Lázně Luhačovice, a.s.

The jury highlighted the complex approach to the restoration and the permeation of nature into the architecture, which is typical for Luhačovice. It also appreciated the respect for the materials and the quality of the construction and restoration work.

"We appreciated the restoration of the spa colonnade with the Vincentka hall not only because the restoration itself was done in an exemplary manner both in terms of the materials used and the high quality of craftsmanship, but also because the restoration brought an overall cultivation of the space," says Ing. arch. Naděžda Goryczková, Director General of the National Heritage Institute and adds: "The Luhačovice Colonnade has once again become a representative centre of this spa town and the wider landscape. We also greatly appreciate the above-standard approach of the investor, who has approached the presentation of the values of the complex with sensitivity and respect over the long term."

The Luhačovice Colonnade Complex, which is a cultural monument of the Czech Republic, consists overall of three interconnected buildings - the Vincentka Hall and the Large and Small Colonnades, which are located directly in the spa area nominated for inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Between September 2018 and November 2019, the building underwent a challenging revitalisation, which aimed primarily at maximising the preservation of original elements, careful replication and overall sensitive architectural integration into the surrounding landscape. The reconstruction, which cost more than 100 million crowns and brought life to the colonnade, has also been favourably evaluated by visitors to the spa.

In October last year, the revitalisation of the colonnade and Vincentka Hall was also awarded the Zlín Region Governor's Award in the 2019 Construction of the Year competition of the Zlín Region.

Luhačovice wants to protect its historical centre

The town of Luhačovice is planning a building closure in the area of the historic core. The measure is intended to temporarily protect architecturally valuable sites from unregulated construction until the new zoning plan comes into force. The building closure is to apply to the spa colonnade or Jurkovič Avenue towards the Luhačovice dam. In other locations, on the other hand, the city is ready to support new construction.
