The history of the modern spa in Luhačovice is inextricably linked with the names of the so-called "Luhačovice Musketeers", Dr. František Veselý, architect Dušan Jurkovič, spa administrator Cyril Holuby and Dr. Pavel Blaho. In addition to their efforts to build a top-notch place for treatment, rehabilitation and relaxation, these builders and their contemporaries also sought to create a place that would be suitable for Slavic meetings and cultural convergence.

As one of the results of these efforts, between 1908 and 1913, the Czech-Slovak meetings of the Czechoslovak Unity Association were held annually in Luhačovice. It was the most important meeting in Czechoslovak relations before the First World War. "Many places in Slovakia are not as important to the Slovaks as Luhačovice. And there is no other Czech place that has done as much for Slovakia and Czechoslovak unity as Luhačovice,"

The 11th edition of the Days of Slovak Culture, which the Luhačovice Spa will host from August 31 to September 2, will be a reminder not only of the activities of the Czechoslovak Unity. The programme will include performances by the folklore ensemble Slovácký krúžek and Skaličany in Bratislava, the multi-genre band Huncúti, the actor Martin Huba in the theatre performance Kontrabas and also puppeteers with the traditional puppet theatre "Puppets and Puppets on the Colonnade".

Luhačovice wants to protect its historical centre

The town of Luhačovice is planning a building closure in the area of the historic core. The measure is intended to temporarily protect architecturally valuable sites from unregulated construction until the new zoning plan comes into force. The building closure is to apply to the spa colonnade or Jurkovič Avenue towards the Luhačovice dam. In other locations, on the other hand, the city is ready to support new construction.
