Distribution of masks and purchases for the elderly continue successfully, Luhačovice is so far free of the disease
Thanks to the emphasis on compliance with the measures against coronavirus, the understanding of the residents and the maximum efforts of the town management, the situation in Luhačovice during the state of emergency has been managed very well so far. Volunteers sewing drapes and providing purchases for the elderly are of great help. All of this certainly contributes to the fact that the situation in the town is calm and so far very favourable in terms of the threat of an epidemic. "According to the information available to me as of 10:00 on Thursday 19 March, we have not yet reported any coronavirus infections in the entire Luhačovice municipality," said the mayor of the town, Marian Ležák. "Despite the difficult situation in the region, there is a determined atmosphere and positive attitude of everyone in Luhačovice. Life in our spa town continues and people have come together in a wonderful way," added the mayor.

In difficult times, the city is trying to help the most needy and the first purchases for the elderly have been made.
"To date we have facilitated three purchases for the elderly, we currently have about a dozen volunteers and we will be happy if more volunteers come forward," said Deputy Mayor Jiří Šůstek, who is responsible for the city's social sector.
The volunteer sewing of drapes has been very intense. "At the moment, about 15 people are involved, sewing around 200 drapes a day," said Hana Slováková, director of the Elektra Municipal House of Culture, which organises the production of the protective equipment. She added that various factors influence the sewing speed. "The point is that each seamstress is differently skilled, we are also running out of elastic bands and twill tape, and we have to sew with cloth cords, which is longer and more laborious. The sewing machines are also taking a beating and we just hope they will last," Slováková added.
Distribution is on an as-needed basis. "Doctors, pharmacies, shops, the municipal office, police, technical services, the post office and the gas station have already received the sewn drapes from us. During yesterday and today, we also managed to distribute 100 drapes to the public, through the Municipal Police officers. They were distributed mainly to people of the older generation, who are among the most at risk in terms of possible infection. In the afternoon, the drapes were delivered to the local districts through the settlement committees," Slováková said.
A total of 750 drapes sewn by volunteers were distributed from Tuesday until this afternoon. "Please note that fabric drapes should be boiled before and after each use, re-ironed and ideally only the edges should be touched, and only with disinfected hands," Slováková added.
The city also welcomes anyone else to join in the sewing. Just contact the information center for more information. Through it, both volunteers can sign up to sew or deliver purchases, and seniors can order purchases by phone.

Luhačovice wants to protect its historical centre
The town of Luhačovice is planning a building closure in the area of the historic core. The measure is intended to temporarily protect architecturally valuable sites from unregulated construction until the new zoning plan comes into force. The building closure is to apply to the spa colonnade or Jurkovič Avenue towards the Luhačovice dam. In other locations, on the other hand, the city is ready to support new construction.
