Golden Sunday for Luhačovice

In the individual competition Vojtěch Sýkora won his first medal in the adult category, namely bronze, when in a hundred percent competition of our best competitors in the OB he showed an excellent performance without any major hesitation. In the women's category, after a few small mistakes, Vendula Horčičková ran for the sixth place and Sára Bednaříková had a great result in the older female junior category (D18).

In the late afternoon, after moving to Pardubice, this year's Czech Championship of sprint relays was run. It is a race where two men and two women start in a relay, with the women's leg starting and finishing the race. The men start on the second and third legs. And here the victory was celebrated by the Luhačovice quartet consisting of Martina Jirčáková, Vojtěch Sýkora, Jonáš Hubáček and Vendula Horčičková. Our orienteers did not make any significant mistakes among the six main favourites and deservedly ran for the gold medals in a total time of 56:03, beating the second team from OK99 Hradec Králové by 23 seconds (the Hradec Králové team were the defenders of last year's championship).

After the first section we were in 8th place - in close contact with the fourth place and 46 seconds behind the leader. Martina Jircakova ran the opening section very well. During the second section, Vojta Sýkora, who was running well, worked his way into the lead and handed over to Jonáš Hubáček with a three-second lead. He increased the lead to 17 seconds and the very experienced Vendula Horčičková kept everything in check on the last section and with a lead of 23 seconds she crossed the finish line triumphantly.

After two fourth and two sixth places in previous years we finally got a medal in this relatively young discipline of orienteering. As one saying goes. If you knock on the door for a long time, one day it will open. And for the Luhačovice orienteers it opened wide.
