In the first days of March, the dam and its surroundings quickly come alive with tourist traffic.
"I always come here in the early spring, for I don't know how many years now, for me it's the time of year when it has its magic. True, I've experienced snow and ice, but now March is perfect for walking, my friend and I are just returning from a walking tour around the dam," reports fresh spring experiences for Mr. Ivan from Beroun.
It's pretty lively under the dam as well as on the other side of the reservoir, where it's fed by the lively Štávnice river. And it's under and on the surface. "The carp, as they should be, are really big," shows a boy and his grandfather, who came here directly from Luhačovice.
In addition, wild ducks are dating here, there are also plenty of them on both sides of the dam.
On the asphalt path around the dam, a mother and her young child are riding rollerblades at a decent speed on a bicycle."Mommy, when are we going swimming?" asks the inquisitive little boy...

The dam itself has an extremely interesting history.
"Because of the danger of flooding, construction began in 1912, but World War I delayed the ambitious project long enough for it to be inaugurated eighteen years later, in 1930. Instead of the emperor, the president was already leading the republic," recalls Petr Chmelař from Povodí Moravy, which manages the long-standing waterworks.
He recalls what the waterworks are waiting for these days.
"Our people are cleaning the water level after the winter, removing the so-called splash, which is an adequate term, not silt, as is more often, but not correctly, used in the media," adds a spokesman for the Morava River Basin.
A new feature is an interesting children's park on the far side of the dam, the swings are already in motion, although they are still painting and filing everything necessary for when the season really gets going.
And a short distance away, fishermen have already cast. So it can all begin, as it has for years, running, riding, sitting and flowing...

Luhačovice wants to protect its historical centre
The town of Luhačovice is planning a building closure in the area of the historic core. The measure is intended to temporarily protect architecturally valuable sites from unregulated construction until the new zoning plan comes into force. The building closure is to apply to the spa colonnade or Jurkovič Avenue towards the Luhačovice dam. In other locations, on the other hand, the city is ready to support new construction.
