Luhačovice also attracts guests from across the border

"We are from Nova Dubnica, not so far away. Our spa is literally around the corner, we can easily walk to Trenčianske Teplice. We like it here, we like it here," reports Mrs. Helena, who arrived with her daughter Lucie, and is looking for a place to eat.

"We've been to Myslivna for coffee, we know a lot more here, like Bedrich Smetana House, as well as Jurkovic House, of course the Vincentka, there is still a lot to discover, we have not yet been to the Hotel Alexandria," says Lucia, adding that she and her mother are actually both quite Czechoslovak.

"I was here twice back in Czechoslovakia in the late 1990s for treatment of respiratory problems, but I know that they treat things like diabetes and many other diagnoses," recalls the knowledge of her mother, Helena.

"Well, I'm ninety-two, so I was born in Czechoslovakia," adds Lucia.

Reconstruction in progress

The spa is currently "treating" in other ways. Specifically, locals and visitors cannot miss the construction activity on the Spa Polyclinic building and the confectionery and adjacent buildings. That is, on Lázeňské náměstí in close proximity to the colonnade.

"Of course, this is also an important "treatment", the buildings will get a new facade and roof, they deserve care as much as our clients," says General Director of Lázně Luhačovice a.s. Jiří Dědek.

The Czechoslovak spirit is evident in the spa, which in the past and even today has become and is becoming a meeting place for people from both sides of the border of two independent countries. Indeed, this will be confirmed, among other things, by the Days of Slovak Culture at the end of summer.

Luhačovice wants to protect its historical centre

The town of Luhačovice is planning a building closure in the area of the historic core. The measure is intended to temporarily protect architecturally valuable sites from unregulated construction until the new zoning plan comes into force. The building closure is to apply to the spa colonnade or Jurkovič Avenue towards the Luhačovice dam. In other locations, on the other hand, the city is ready to support new construction.
