Instead of the state budget, the government wants to get the proposed compensation bonus for entrepreneurs from taxes that were supposed to go to local governments. Therefore, the Union of Towns and Municipalities of the Czech Republic, the Association of Local Authorities of the Czech Republic and the Association for the Renewal of Rural Areas of the Czech Republic have jointly declared a Black Day for Municipalities and Regions. Luhačovice did not hesitate for a second and joined the protest. The mayor Marian Ležák outlined the consequences of the possible adoption of the government proposal for the spa town.
"
As a result, Luhačovice would lose an additional CZK 4.3 million. The town's planned investments would have to be suspended because of this. We cannot continue the reconstruction of Nádražní Street, which is to follow the completion of the transport terminal, the construction of which started a few days ago. We have to suspend the reconstruction of Hrazanská Street, the construction of a parking lot in Družstevní Street, a new footbridge over the river and other repairs of sidewalks in various parts of the city," the mayor pointed out. The city is already counting on a significant impact on the budget due to the expected economic downturn. "The projected drop in tax revenues and other revenues for our city could reach as much as a staggering $22 million because of this governmental change, paralyzing further development in the city," Lezak assessed.
