Patients suffer from a number of health problems even after a successful cure, such as lack of energy, feeling tired early, exhaustion, loss of performance, deconditioning, side effects of chemotherapy or radiotherapy, swelling of tissues, persistent pain in the area of the surgical scar, but also other problems such as loss of self-confidence, anxiety or depression, sleep disturbances and others.
"At Luhačovice Spa we have a lot of experience in rehabilitation of cancer patients. Not everyone knows that the entire treatment is covered by health insurance if the criteria of the indication list are met. The three-week treatment includes not only medical services, the development of an individual treatment plan, rehabilitation procedures and medical check-ups, but also accommodation and meals in a spa environment," said Petr Pšenica.
A comprehensive approach to the patient is the key to success, according to the head doctor of Luhačovice Spa. At the initial medical examination, the patient and the doctor set the goal of medical rehabilitation, according to which, taking into account the current state of health, the doctor will draw up a treatment and rehabilitation plan.
"Procedures are aimed at eliminating persistent health problems. For example, baths in natural mineral water are used to improve blood circulation to the organs, relieve muscle tension and help the body regain lost strength. Massages, especially therapeutic lymphatic massages that target complications of cancer treatment, may also be appropriate," continued the spa doctor.
These treatments can also be complemented by physical activities that help the patient return to good condition. Among the popular ones are group exercises in the water or Nordic walking in a natural spa environment under the guidance of an experienced physiotherapist.
"The spa environment itself has its own contribution to the healing effect, where new acquaintances are casually made and concerns and experiences with the disease and treatment are exchanged in a pleasant atmosphere. Patients leave rested, in better condition and knowing that they are not alone on the road to recovery," added Pšenica.

The town of Luhačovice is planning a building closure in the area of the historic core. The measure is intended to temporarily protect architecturally valuable sites from unregulated construction until the new zoning plan comes into force. The building closure is to apply to the spa colonnade or Jurkovič Avenue towards the Luhačovice dam. In other locations, on the other hand, the city is ready to support new construction.
