Multiple sclerosis is a disease of autoimmune nature that affects the central nervous system of humans. The disease most often begins between the ages of 20 and 30 and affects women more often than men. The most common symptoms of the disease are neurological manifestations, mainly associated with visual disturbances, changes in sensitivity to touch, heat, cold, pain, impaired mobility and balance, fatigue, pain and depression.
Medical treatment is administered in centres for the treatment of demyelinating disorders and includes acute treatment, long-term treatment including so-called biological therapy and symptomatic treatment. Non-medical treatment, which includes rehabilitation and a healthy lifestyle, is also an integral part of the treatment.
"We rely on the cooperation of neurologists in our medical rehabilitation. At the initial medical examination, a treatment plan is drawn up according to the set rehabilitation goals, taking into account the patient's current state of health and associated diseases," says Petr Pšenica, the head doctor at Lázně Luhačovice.
From a therapeutic point of view, baths with natural mineral water are prescribed for the treatment of neurological disorders. Thanks to the high concentration of bicarbonate and iodine, they have an excellent effect on improving blood circulation in the musculoskeletal system, improving connective tissue properties and relieving muscle tension.
"Integral to this is individual and group physiotherapy and other appropriate methods of physical therapy as prescribed by a physician," added Pšenica.

The measure is intended to temporarily protect architecturally valuable sites from unregulated construction until the new zoning plan comes into force. The building closure is to apply to the spa colonnade or Jurkovič Avenue towards the Luhačovice dam. In other locations, on the other hand, the city is ready to support new construction.
