The hotel closures are one of many measures introduced by the government because of the coronavirus. Still, the mayor believes the city will be able to fill up with visitors this year as it has in other years. "People will find Luhačovice prepared as they know it. That is, with beautifully landscaped streets and a unique atmosphere. We would like to get closer to the numbers this year that prove how important our spa town is for tourism in the Zlín Region," said Ležák.

In 2019, which has not yet been affected by the impact of the current restrictions, the number of overnight stays in Luhačovice accounted for more than a quarter of all overnight stays in the Zlín Region, according to the Czech Statistical Office. "We also recorded exceptional visitor interest in 2020, but unfortunately only in the summer months when the government's tough measures were not in force," the mayor noted.

The importance of Luhačovice for the tourism of the Zlín Region and its popularity among visitors is evidenced by other figures from the Czech Statistical Office's statistics for 2019, according to Luhačovice spokesman Nikola Sink. The number of beds occupied by visitors is also interesting. In Luhačovice, it was 3,242," Ležák said.

There is also interest in the entire area falling under Luhačovice as a municipality with extended jurisdiction. "In this case, the number of overnight stays here in 2019 was over 824,000, which is 36 percent of all overnight stays in the Zlín region," the mayor outlined.
