To make the world a little greener and teach children to relate to nature and their city. These were the main goals of the "Plant your tree" event that took place last weekend in Luhačovice.

A total of 18 ornamental sakura trees were planted by families with children on Saturday 15 May in front of the Luhačovice primary school as part of the first phase of the "Plant Your Tree" project. And this number of trees is far from final - in the near future 200 new deciduous trees are to be planted in the streets of Luhačovice and local parts of the town.
Family groups gradually came to the school with gardening tools - shovels, spades, hoes, the smallest children carried a small shovel, a bucket. When everything was done, the family received a certificate of the planting and the children could also sign or mark their tree with a picture.
"I find it a great event," said Žaneta Urbancová, who planted the tree together with her daughter and son, who go to 9th grade. "We welcome it, it's definitely an opportunity for citizens to get involved in the city a little bit and an opportunity for children to experience not only the mental work but also the physical work," appreciated one of the dads for another of the families. "It's a great idea to do something for Luhačovice," remarked another adult participant Zuzana Vítková, who came to plant with her two young sons. "The boys go to kindergarten here, then they go to school here, so they always remember that they planted a tree."
Another participant, Sofie Zichová, a 1st grade student at Luhačovice Primary School, is looking forward to seeing how "her" tree will accompany her through life. "I go to school here and I will see the tree every time, even when I leave school I will see it," Soflika is looking forward to it. She confided that she used to help her daddy mainly with a shovel to spread the soil. "There were earthworms in it too," smiled the little girl. She also decorated the structure by her tree. "I drew a sun, my signature, a heart and a marigold," the little community planting participant revealed.
The next phase of tree planting will continue in Luhačovice this coming weekend and interest in the event from the public is once again high."The plan is to plant more sakura trees at the entrance to the Municipal Cemetery and another avenue right in its grounds. The following week, 21 deciduous trees will be planted in the local part of Polichno," informed Jarmila Ďurďová, manager of the "Plant your tree" project.
Further trees will be planted in the autumn in the Luhačovice local districts of Kladná Žilín and Řetechov. Then, next spring, planting is being prepared in the vicinity of the Radostov Sports Centre.
