Between 1928 and 1947, very popular car and motorcycle races took place in Luhačovice.
"The so-called car tournaments were held regularly in Luhačovice from 1928 to 1938, and after the Second World War in 1946 and 1947. In cooperation with the spa management, they were organized by the Czechoslovak Automobile Club for Moravia and Silesia," explains Blanka Petráková, the curator of the exhibition.
The exhibition will present dozens of attractive archival photographs and trophies from Luhačovice tournaments from the First Republic era, including film documents on loan from the Moravian Provincial Archive, in the museum at the Elektra Cultural Centre in Luhačovice.
Visitors will learn about the personalities of the leading riders and profiles of Czech motorcycle and automobile companies that sent representatives to Luhačovice.
"Many ladies will appreciate the models of period fashion, which illustrate the atmosphere of the 1930s. The main stars of the exhibition, however, are the motorcycles of Pavel Malanik, a collector from Luhačovice, who is an author of reconstructions of historic motorcycles and has gained European fame in his field. An attractive addition to the exhibition are also illustrations by Martin Sodomka from his children's book How to Build a Motorbike.
"The museum is of course thinking of children in the exhibition. There is also an interactive playroom focused on the history of motorsport and other activities in the field of motoring, educational programs for schools and popular workshops," said Silvie Lečíková from the Museum of Southeast Moravia in Zlín.
In addition, the exhibition is expanding into space - another part of it in the form of twelve panels with texts and photographs will be available to the public at the spa colonnade. Both parts will run until the end of 2025, with the museum part opening this Thursday, February 13, at 5 p.m.

Luhačovice wants to protect its historical centre
The town of Luhačovice is planning a building closure in the area of the historic core. The measure is intended to temporarily protect architecturally valuable sites from unregulated construction until the new zoning plan comes into force. The building closure is to apply to the spa colonnade or Jurkovič Avenue towards the Luhačovice dam. In other locations, on the other hand, the city is ready to support new construction.
