Masks, slaughter and sabre dancing! Luhačovice will come alive with carnival fun this Saturday

The programme starts at 10 o'clock, when the mayor of Luhačovice will symbolically hand over the reigns of the town to the landlord from the Malé Zálesí FS. This will be followed by the traditional masquerade parade.

"The invitation was accepted by folklorists from the village of Strání, which is a mecca of the ancient ceremonial sabre dance. This dance, called Under the Sabre, will be performed by dancers of the Javorina folklore ensemble accompanied by the Strýci dulcimer music," said Jarmila Ďurďová, head of culture at KKC Elektra.

The afternoon part of the programme will start at 4 pm in the Elektra dance lounge. The dulcimer music Strýci and FS Javorina will jointly start the first-ever dulcimer festival called Fašankové veselí.

In front of the Elektra building there will also be a traditional home-made slaughter, which will be provided by a master butcher.

"This year's novelty is the possibility to order a slaughter package in advance. The package will be prepared exactly according to the customer's wishes," the Luhačovice town hall announced on its website.
