In a climate of fear about coronavirus infection, medical spa officials want to make sure their facilities are safe for patients. "Due to the therapeutic nature of SLL member spas, these are facilities with many times the level of hygiene precautions that you will encounter in regular lodging facilities, stores, etc." Eduard Bláha, president of the Association of Health Spas of the Czech Republic (SLL), emphasizes.
Before entering the spa, spa guests send an affidavit stating that they have no symptoms of a viral infectious disease, and upon arrival their temperature is taken and they are examined by a spa doctor. Visitors with an elevated temperature are not admitted for spa treatment. Due to the length of the treatment stay, which varies between two and three weeks, patients stay for a long time in a closed and medically supervised homogeneous society. All spa staff are checked daily. Moreover, it should be remembered that these are medical inpatient facilities where the use of drapes has not been discontinued even during the summer months, which are disinfected several times a day and where the public has only limited access.
Cultural and other social gatherings have been restricted since the beginning of September. Because of current state measures, the risk of guests encountering the infection outside the spa in dance halls and similar establishments has also been reduced. It was just such an establishment that was the primary source of the infection in the publicized Franzensbad case.
"If experts say that around five percent or more of the population is already Covid positive, and without any symptoms, it is clear that catching the disease cannot be avoided even in a spa. The point is that it should be relatively lower than elsewhere and the spa operators should react quickly and correctly to such a situation. It is important not only to respect the 3 declared R's - hands, drapes, spacing, but also to add the all-important fourth R - reason. Only it will help us to evaluate the situation around us responsibly, not to fall into paralyzing panic, not to underestimate anything and to behave responsibly towards ourselves and the environment," adds Dr. Bláha. "People need to be constantly reminded that fear should not be a reason to postpone treatment of health problems, and of course not only at the spa," he concludes.
