The opening of the springs is one of the most beautiful and popular events in Luhačovice every year and this year was no different. Although the rainy weather on Saturday was a bit of a problem for the organizers, it didn't detract from the joy of those present and everything ran like clockwork.

"It couldn't have been done without our volunteers, such as firefighters, volunteer performers, technical services and many other people who are around. A huge thank you to all of them," said Jan Zavřel, director of the Elektra Luhačovice Municipal House of Culture, on behalf of the organizers.

On Saturday, visitors could enjoy a stylish promenade in period costumes, a parade of vintage cars, a ride on vintage bicycles and several dance and music performances. Sunday's dedication was preceded by a solemn Mass in the Church of the Holy Family. Then the procession went to the St. Joseph Spring, where the blessing of the springs was performed by local pastor Jan Ston and chaplain Jan Svozílek.

Remember that the most famous Luhačovice springs include Vincentka, Aloiska, Ottovka and Dr. Št'astný Spring. Now, Vincentka lovers can get more water than in the past, because the water springs in two places.

"All springs are accessible. Vincentka currently springs even under the spa colonnade, which was not the case before. The public perception of this is very positive. Vincentka is otherwise probably the most important for all visitors, but everyone can find their favourite one here," smiled Jan Zavřel.

Many people regularly return to Luhačovice Spa, not only for the Opening of the Springs, but also for spa treatments. There are even those who have grown so fond of Luhačovice that it has become their second home.

"I have been coming to the local spa for about 17 years. I loved it so much that about ten years ago my husband and I made a home here. So now we commute between our permanent residence and Luhačovice, where we spend most of the year, especially the summer season," revealed Irena Matouchová, a regular visitor to the festival.

The modern tradition of blessing springs was revived by the Luhačovice folklore ensemble Malé Zálesí in the 1990s. Visitors to the Luhačovice spa use the healing water for mineral baths, treatments, but also as inhalation or for drinking cures. All waters are available free of charge and visitors can take away exactly the one they like best.

Luhačovice wants to protect its historical centre

The town of Luhačovice is planning a building closure in the area of the historic core. The measure is intended to temporarily protect architecturally valuable sites from unregulated construction until the new zoning plan comes into force. The building closure is to apply to the spa colonnade or Jurkovič Avenue towards the Luhačovice dam. In other locations, on the other hand, the city is ready to support new construction.
