In the presence of many local and international spectators, Sunday morning in Luhačovice belonged to the traditional consecration of the spa springs. It was preceded by a holy mass, after which a costumed procession together with a number of distinguished guests went to the individual springs. Each one was then officially blessed by the church dignitaries, symbolically opening the next spa season.
"Of course, it is a special event because it is a celebration of the springs, those natural healing resources that make Luhačovice a spa and allow our company to do what it does, which is to treat patients and provide health services to clients," said Jiří Dědek, director of the Luhačovice Spa.
While the attendance at last year's Opening of the Springs was slightly affected by the waning pandemic restraint, the attendance at this year's consecration again matched the importance of the event, its great atmosphere and symbolism.
"It is a very pleasant cultural and social event. You can hear the folklorists and there are lots of people here. In terms of importance, it has uniquely its place in the calendar of events of the Zlín Region," thinks Lubomír Traub, deputy governor of the Zlín Region.
The whole parade went through a pre-planned route to stop successively at the springs of St. Joseph, Ottovka, Dr. František Št'astný, Nový jubilee, Vincentka and at the Chapel of St. Elizabeth. In addition to the spiritual word, there was also music and singing at each spring.

Luhačovice wants to protect its historical centre
The town of Luhačovice is planning a building closure in the area of the historic core. The measure is intended to temporarily protect architecturally valuable sites from unregulated construction until the new zoning plan comes into force. The building closure is to apply to the spa colonnade or Jurkovič Avenue towards the Luhačovice dam. In other locations, on the other hand, the city is ready to support new construction.
