The spa town took the first place in the category of municipalities from 1,501 to 15,000 inhabitants. The award for the victory was received by the Mayor Marian Ležák together with the Director of TS Luhačovice Josef Pučalík at the award ceremony on 7 September at the castle in Bystřice pod Hostýnem.
"I am glad that Luhačovice returned to the first place in this competition after the last second place. I thank all citizens for their exemplary waste sorting and supporting the development of ecology in our town," said Mayor Marian Ležák.
In addition to a symbolic ceramic bin, Luhačovice as the winner also received CZK 30,000 for further development of waste management. The main criterion for the evaluation was the amount of sorted waste per capita, as well as the number of sorted commodities on the territory of individual municipalities and towns. The density of the collection network and the collection of metal waste were also taken into account. The evaluation itself was based on the data provided by municipalities to the EKO-KOM system as part of their regular reporting for a specified period.
Šumice came second in the same category behind Luhačovice, while Bánov came third. Among towns with more than 15,000 inhabitants, Uherské Hradiště won the other categories, while Vigantice was the best sorting municipality among municipalities with up to 1,500 inhabitants. Bořenovice was first among small municipalities with up to 500 inhabitants.
Last year, 22.5 kg of paper, 14 kg of plastics, 13 kg of glass and 0.3 kg of beverage cartons were sorted per inhabitant of the Zlín Region. In total, nearly 50 kg of waste was sorted for each resident of the region, an increase of nearly 3 kg compared to 2018.
