Spa physiotherapist Rastislav Balaz: Patients must work out the gums themselves

Rastislav Baláž has been involved in physiotherapy for almost twenty years, twelve of which he has been taking care of patients at the Luhačovice Spa. Thousands of them have passed through his hands. "It is not enough for a physiotherapist to know the human body, he must also be able to include the patient's mind in the treatment," says Rastislav Baláž in his office at the Palace Hotel.

He loves his work and his satisfied patients testify to that. "In my twenty years of practice, I have only had five occasions when I have not been able to talk to a patient and he refused to cooperate. I talk to them a lot and I'm honest. I tell them that I can help them, but they're going to do the hard work anyway. In physiotherapy it is important that patients trust you," he says, describing his approach and adding that many patients have become his friends over time.

In the spa Rastislav Balazs cares for people with various diagnoses. Among the most common are respiratory and musculoskeletal disorders and the effects of cancer treatment.

"I have to approach each patient differently. It is easiest with patients who are recovering from trauma. They come in on crutches and after a month they go home on their own. With respiratory diseases, it's a long haul and patients come back to us," explains Balazs.
