The theatre has undergone many changes over the years - and there are 113 of them today - but the look has remained de facto constant for many years. It just had an entrance wing added in the mid-1950s. But what hasn't changed a bit, of course, is the location of the theatre building just below the main road, just above the colonnade. In a location that is not visible from everywhere, or rather from nowhere, and yet gives this interesting cultural stand the hallmark of uniqueness.
The history is long, and is therefore understandably very interesting. The pearl, or rather the pearl, is the fact that right at the very beginning, or rather in the second year, the Prague Švand Theatre from Smíchov had its home stage here. The actors lived in the Villa Valaška...
And a little bit further back. When the theatre opened at the end of June 1908, the wives of the spa doctors greeted those present with singing from the works of Smetana or Dvořák, and the day after Vrchlický's Night at Karlštejn was performed here.
Great personalities are connected with the theatre, but in order not to bore the careful reader with history, the author should mention those who have visited the theatre in recent years, along with many others.
Dalibor Chrastina from the management of Lázní Luhačovice, which owns the building, recalls Václav Hudeček, Milan Lasica, Hana Maciuchová, Josef Somr, Blanka Bohdanová, Simona Stašová, Karel Heřmánek, Jožka Černý, Ladislav Kerndl, Pavel Zedníček and many others.
With the exception of Milan Lasica, the Czechs. However, the recently deceased bard of Slovak and Czechoslovak acting and humour would surely be pleased that the Days of Slovak Culture in Luhačovice always culminate in the Spa Theatre with performances by top musical groups from Slovakia.
And this is again a continuation of the times of the beginning of the last century, when the protagonists of the ideas of Czech-Slovak reciprocity met in this very theatre - then, for example, without heating and social facilities.

Luhačovice wants to protect its historical centre
The town of Luhačovice is planning a building closure in the area of the historic core. The measure is intended to temporarily protect architecturally valuable sites from unregulated construction until the new zoning plan comes into force. The building closure is to apply to the spa colonnade or Jurkovič Avenue towards the Luhačovice dam. In other locations, on the other hand, the city is ready to support new construction.
