The dam itself has a very interesting history. Back in the time of the Emperor, the need for a work that would protect the surrounding area from high water levels and, in times of drought, help to replenish the water levels, arose rapidly.
Building began three years later after the memento of the great flood of 1910, but the fateful First World War and other related events meant that the dam was not filled for the first time until 1930, when Franz Josef I was no longer in power and the first Czechoslovak president, T. G. Masaryk, was celebrating his 80th birthday. But enough history. The present is more important and easier to describe.
May is already a month of walking, skating, running, cycling and scootering. It's just when it's already busy, as local food operators -- and their guests -- like it here.
"We meet here regularly at this time of year full of promising greenery with friends from several parts of the country, it seems all fresh and yet quite calm and cool," says Hana from Prostejov on the banks of the dam, adding that she has friends from Blansko and Pelhřimov.
The ring around the dam is about three and a half kilometres long. People stop not only at the dam, but also at the other end of the 40-hectare body of water.
"I've never seen this before, these are incredible pieces," a young man accompanied by his two young sons watches giant carp swarm right before his eyes on a bridge that connects the two banks at the narrowest part of the dam. Fishing is banned in these areas, of course, but there are quite a few fishermen in the middle part.
The first visitors of the year have already been welcomed by the well-established camp and the operation of the pedal boat and other craft rental is getting underway.
"It's great, so far it's quite free on the water, it's very nice surroundings, we're enjoying it, now we're going to have a refreshment," Radim from Ostrava plans his next moments together with his partner.
The garden restaurant near the yet closed swimming pool is already pretty full. The beer ranges in price from 45 to 62 crowns.
"Well, it's not cheap, but what is today, right?" The group of young people orders four more pieces.
Life around the dam is already in full swing and will certainly continue to be so until the end of the tourist season, which lasts in full intensity until at least the end of September.

Luhačovice wants to protect its historical centre
The town of Luhačovice is planning a building closure in the area of the historic core. The measure is intended to temporarily protect architecturally valuable sites from unregulated construction until the new zoning plan comes into force. The building closure is to apply to the spa colonnade or Jurkovič Avenue towards the Luhačovice dam. In other locations, on the other hand, the city is ready to support new construction.
