The so-called "Dědina", as the housing estate on Družstevní Street and its surroundings is called, has its May again after decades. On Thursday, 30 April 2020, it was erected in the garden of the local Home for the Elderly by the Luhačovice Volunteer Fire Brigade.

The whole idea was born last autumn and the initiative came directly from the Home for the Elderly. The intention to bring back the tradition of Maypole building to "Dědina" was supported by the newly established Pramen Luhačovice Foundation, and so a big event began to be planned not only for the Home, but for the whole surrounding area. Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic forced us to discount our plans and we built the maypole only in an intimate way and with all necessary precautions. Even so, we are very happy about it and hope that it has also pleased our dear neighbours.
We believe that the 12-metre high maypole, which now stands outside our building, will be a symbol of hope that our lives will soon gradually return to normal and we will be able to meet again on similar occasions. Hopefully, next year, the erection of the maypole will be accompanied by a celebration with music and refreshments, but most importantly, by the participation of all those who want to commemorate this tradition in Luhačovice again.
We would like to thank the Pramen Luhačovice Foundation for its financial support, which covered the decoration of the maypole and the technical support. We would also like to thank the entire team of "builders" from the Luhačovice Volunteer Fire Brigade and Chief Michal Kubel and Alois Obadal for the beautiful maypole.

Luhačovice wants to protect its historical centre
The town of Luhačovice is planning a building closure in the area of the historic core. The measure is intended to temporarily protect architecturally valuable sites from unregulated construction until the new zoning plan comes into force. The building closure is to apply to the spa colonnade or Jurkovič Avenue towards the Luhačovice dam. In other locations, on the other hand, the city is ready to support new construction.
