The traditional folklore festival of Song and Dance starts on Thursday

The theme of searching for a new home will be represented at the festival by both Czech and international ensembles. "Definitely worth mentioning is the Czech Beseda ensemble from Međurić, Croatia, which proudly performs in original Kyjov costumes and tries to preserve Czech folklore hundreds of kilometers away from its original homeland," said Karel Ročák, chairman of the Kulturní Luhačovice association and main organizer of the event.

The Jewish ensemble Yocheved from Trebic and the Greek group Antigoni from Krnov will also perform. "These are children from the age of five, the fourth generation of Greek emigrants who came to Czechoslovakia after the war," Rochak said.

The Czech Republic will be represented by Jitřenka from Český Krumlov and Kosiska from Ratibor. There will also be FS Malé Zálesí, FS Leluja and the children's group of pupils from Dolní Lhota Primary School, because they are at home in Luhačovice Zálesí.

The organizers have prepared a rich accompanying program. In addition to the traditional announcement of the winner of the national competition Village of the Year, which is scheduled for Saturday, September 16, visitors can look forward to creative workshops or a bonfire.

"We do not want the festival to be just a presentation of children's folklore, but above all for children to experience it. That is why the festival will include a children's dulcimer session where young folklorists can meet and learn each other's dances of their regions. And it's not just for the "ensemble kids", but we will be very happy if other children who don't perform with folk ensembles join in," adds Ročák.
