The traditional Opening of the Springs will only be symbolic and on a different date

Despite the gradual relaxation of anti-pandemic measures, the current situation still does not allow for the organization of cultural events for the public on the scale we were used to in previous years. The current situation will have a negative impact on the traditional Opening of the Springs, which is usually held in Luhačovice on the second weekend in May. Thousands of visitors regularly come to the popular opening of the spa season, but this year, as last year, the programmes will not be held on the usual date.

"We are very sorry, but the current conditions unfortunately do not allow us to carry out the planned event, which was to be held on 7 - 9 May. It cannot now take place even in a shortened form, as current restrictions do not allow us to do that either. Due to the nature of the event and the uncertainty in the release of the measures, it is not yet possible to set an alternative date," explained Hana Slováková, director of the Elektra Municipal House of Culture, on behalf of the organizers.

The Opening of the Springs, which is regularly organized by the city in cooperation with a number of partners, was expected to offer a rich program this year as well. It includes not only the annual Sunday costume parade associated with the dedication of the springs, but also a number of cultural performances, a fair, a vintage car show, promenades in historical costumes and other accompanying programs.

This year the dedication of the springs will be symbolic and will take place without the participation of visitors. The springs should be opened as soon as the situation permits. "But the event will probably take place only on a minimal symbolic scale and, similarly to last year, most likely without the presence of the general public," Slováková outlined.

It is looking more optimistic, however, with the holding of other popular events that are inextricably linked to Luhačovice. "We believe that with the gradual improvement of the situation and the easing of measures, it will be possible to hold, for example, the Luhačovice fair in July and perhaps also various earlier events in the usual time and scope. When this is possible, we will of course be happy to welcome visitors to all programmes," added Slováková.

Luhačovice wants to protect its historical centre

The town of Luhačovice is planning a building closure in the area of the historic core. The measure is intended to temporarily protect architecturally valuable sites from unregulated construction until the new zoning plan comes into force. The building closure is to apply to the spa colonnade or Jurkovič Avenue towards the Luhačovice dam. In other locations, on the other hand, the city is ready to support new construction.
