The opening ceremony of the theatre festival will take place on Monday, August 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the Spa Theatre. First up on the boards that mean the world will be the actors of Prague's Viola Theatre with their conversational comedy SCORPIOS ON THE LOOKOUT. The play is set on the yacht of billionaire Aristotle Onassis, carrying Winston Churchill and Greta Garbo. The meeting of two extraordinary 20th-century figures is not an attempt at a historically faithful documentary, but is above all an entertaining discussion about the role of art and beauty in our lives and a reflection on women and men.
On Tuesday night, the actors of the Metro Prague Theatre will play the comedy I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF YOU, which has the theme "midlife crisis in the English way". The play, written by Ray Cooney, Earl Barrett and Arno Sultan, has won audiences all over the world, and in our country it makes visitors laugh under the direction of the experienced Antonín Procházka. In the play, where there will be no shortage of gags and humorous dialogues, we will see the president of the festival Miloslav Mejzlík or the Rašilovs.
Wednesday's production of THE DRIVER OF THE DAISY MIRROR by Alfred Uhry will be brought to the spa town by actors from the nearby Municipal Theatre Zlín. The play is about the relationship between two elderly people - a peculiar, opinionated, rich Jewish widow and her quite poor black chauffeur. Each of them has different habits and values, but despite this, over time their union develops into a true friendship. Milena Marcilisová and Rostislav Marek will play the lead roles.
Thursday night, audiences can look forward to a glorious production by Studio L + S Bratislava of SHIRLEY VALENTINE. They will be treated to a monodrama performed by this year's festival patron Zdena Studenkova, whose protagonist Shirley Valentine lives in a marriage that has lost its spark. Suddenly, she is faced with an unexpected challenge, she starts travelling and her life takes on a completely different dimension.
The Friday guest of the festival will be Divadlo v Řeznické, which will present the play by Vlasta Žehrová SEJDEME SE POD VOCASEM. The production performs the so-called theatre on theatre with humour. It combines the facts of the history of the Theatre in Řeznická with fiction and guides the audience through the era of "developed socialism", the decline of all moral, ethical and aesthetic values in the whole society, including art.
The Luhačovice festival will end on Saturday evening with a performance of POLIB AUNTIE OR NOBODY IS WITHOUT ERROR performed by the Prague U Valšů Theatre. In a particularly involved comedy, a shy statistician Leonard lives with his teenage daughter and his quirky father after a divorce. To earn extra money, he writes a love novel under a female pseudonym. An attractive publisher, Harriet, wants to get to know the "successful author" and Leonard has no choice but to adopt the pseudonym. In the central duo we can look forward to Jan Čenský and Miroslava Pleštilova.
In addition to the theatre performances, Divadelní Luhačovice will also offer an accompanying programme, which will kick off on Sunday 21 August in the Vincentka hall with the exhibition of the Slovácké divadlo Uherské Hradiště "Behind the scenes of the Slovácké divadlo". On Wednesday 24 August, a discussion between Miloslav Mejzlík and Zdená Studenková will take place in the Concert Hall of the Social House.

Luhačovice wants to protect its historical centre
The town of Luhačovice is planning a building closure in the area of the historic core. The measure is intended to temporarily protect architecturally valuable sites from unregulated construction until the new zoning plan comes into force. The building closure is to apply to the spa colonnade or Jurkovič Avenue towards the Luhačovice dam. In other locations, on the other hand, the city is ready to support new construction.
