East Moravia is a diverse region with a wide range of tourist attractions. Its uniqueness lies in the combination of four diverse regions - Zlín and Luhačovice, Wallachia, Slovácko and Kroměříž. Even with the obvious differences of the individual localities, East Moravia as a whole is a very attractive and varied tourist destination, appealing to a wide group of visitors.

"We have long emphasized accessible tourism, which includes, among other things, barrier-free tourist destinations and services for people with physical disabilities, but also for the elderly or families with young children. It is very important to make as many sites and experiences as possible accessible to all these groups," said Petr Michalec on behalf of the East Moravia Tourism Centre.

"In tourism, the economic contribution to the whole area is important, but we must not forget the social aspect, where we allow people with mobility problems to participate in the same activities as other visitors. Investments in barrier-free infrastructure will consequently be reflected in the overall quality of the tourism infrastructure and will also make the needs of people with physical disabilities more accessible to the public. This promotes inclusion not only in tourism, but also in society as a whole," explains Lubomír Traub, deputy governor of the Zlín Region, responsible for strategic development and tourism.

The East Moravia Tourism Centre commissioned a survey last year to map the tourist offer for physically disadvantaged visitors. In the ten selected locations, not only tourist destinations but also accommodation and gastronomic establishments were evaluated.

"It should be remembered that sometimes even places marked as wheelchair accessible can be challenging for wheelchair users. Therefore, correct and non-confusing information about the accessibility of tourist destinations, but also about accommodation and catering facilities is very important. Even just one step in an important place can be an almost unsolvable problem," Michalec said.

Michalec said it is also important to motivate tourism businesses to increase the accessibility of accommodation for these visitors so that there are enough of them.

"We are working to make the East Moravian tourist region perceived as a region welcoming to all groups of visitors, including those with any disability," added Petr Michalec.

The town of Luhačovice is planning a building closure in the area of the historic core. The measure is intended to temporarily protect architecturally valuable sites from unregulated construction until the new zoning plan comes into force. The building closure is to apply to the spa colonnade or Jurkovič Avenue towards the Luhačovice dam. In other locations, on the other hand, the city is ready to support new construction.
