When the time of the soul comes to Luhačovice

You can practically slip into it from the main street of Luhačovice, the museum is located somewhat less traditionally in the basement of the cultural facility Elektra. The exposition is located in the place where there was originally a large telephone exchange.

"People come here now and then thinking that they are going to the technical background. When they look around, they definitely don't regret it," says Blanka Petráková, the manager and also the soul here.

We've barely slipped out of the Halloween traps, and already we can get a little scared here again, albeit in a much different way.

"We have an exhibition called Masks, Costumes, Masquerades. We have been preparing it for a long time, the material is mostly from the collections of our Museum of Southeast Moravia. We have examples of masquerade parades from Zlín and Luhačovice. There is no need to be afraid of devils and their tongues, although there has always been and is a certain demonic quality in them," says the manager.

The most interesting are of course the St. Nicholas parades and their classic faces. By the way, we're already counting down the days.

"Unique are, for example, the St. Nicholas parades from Žlutava or Karolína. Equally noteworthy are the carnival masquerades, for example from Biskupice by the extraordinary artist Marie Skovajsová. This woman of the people sewed costumes and created a huge number of masks and costumes for the carnival," points out the guide to the colourful world.

Elsewhere, period masks and costumes from the frolics, as the people of Luhačovice flaunted them and made merry in them at the turn of the 1930s and 1940s, shine.

The South Wallachian devils are a separate chapter. "Truly unique apparitions, among others from Štítná nad Vláří, Lideček, Horní Lidec, Wallachian Senica and Nedašova Lhota. In total, there are about twelve villages where the devils are really very rough,"

Well, when you fly through the world and see all those not only infernal creatures, you are quite happy to go out again among ordinary mortals. By the way, the rain has stopped and the face of Luhačovice is a bit more autumnal again.

Luhačovice wants to protect its historical centre

The town of Luhačovice is planning a building closure in the area of the historic core. The measure is intended to temporarily protect architecturally valuable sites from unregulated construction until the new zoning plan comes into force. The building closure is to apply to the spa colonnade or Jurkovič Avenue towards the Luhačovice dam. In other locations, on the other hand, the city is ready to support new construction.
