Reducing traffic congestion in the centre of the spa town and protecting the local natural healing waters. These are the main reasons for the construction of the planned road bypass near Luhačovice, which a few days ago came a little closer to realization.

Transit traffic in the central zone of Luhačovice has increased by 100 percent in the last 10 years. The heavy traffic not only significantly disrupts the atmosphere of the spa, but also poses a serious threat to the long-term sustainability of the natural healing resources in the area. A new bypass, which will be created by the relocation of the II/492 road, is expected to divert traffic from the town centre.
A few days ago, representatives of Luhačovice and the Zlín Region signed a second declaration in which the parties pledge to cooperate in the preparation of this important project.
"I am pleased that we have advanced to the next stage in the preparation of the bypass, where we have set out the individual binding steps leading up to the issuance of a building permit," said the town's mayor, Marian Ležák.
According to the declaration, the town of Luhačovice will be the main initiator and coordinator of the necessary changes to the zoning plans in the neighbouring municipalities. The task of the town management will be to ensure the preparation and negotiation of the documentation for the environmental impact assessment of the construction and to take care of the property settlement of the land needed for the implementation of the bypass.
The Zlín Region will be responsible for a detailed geotechnical survey of the area, ensuring the preparation of complete documentation for zoning and building permits, and securing a building permit to start construction.
The realization of the bypass would also be very welcome by the Luhačovice Spa. They have 10 springs under their management, which they provide to patients as part of their spa care.
"We consider the first and most important benefit of the bypass to be the protection of these natural healing resources, also for future generations. Another important benefit of the bypass would be the improvement of air quality and the reduction of noise pollution in our spa town, which is one of the conditions for the existence of spa places in the future," said the CEO of Lázně Luhačovice a.s. Jiří Dědek.
The almost 10-kilometre long bypass should start at the junction near Biskupice and on the other side it will connect to the roundabout above the Luhačovice dam. On the uphill and downhill sections between the dam and Petrůvka, it should have two lanes in each direction.
The total cost is estimated at CZK 1.5 billion and construction could start in 2030.

Luhačovice wants to protect its historical centre
The town of Luhačovice is planning a building closure in the area of the historic core. The measure is intended to temporarily protect architecturally valuable sites from unregulated construction until the new zoning plan comes into force. The building closure is to apply to the spa colonnade or Jurkovič Avenue towards the Luhačovice dam. In other locations, on the other hand, the city is ready to support new construction.
