Officers of the Luhačovice Municipal Police focused on the behaviour and equipment of cyclists. They checked whether their bicycles were properly equipped and whether cyclists under 18 years of age were wearing mandatory helmets. Although the law obliges "only" cyclists under 18 years of age to wear a bicycle helmet when riding a bicycle, it is recommended for other age categories as well. In case of a fall or a collision with a solid obstacle, this protective element can prevent severe consequences.
More than a hundred cyclists were checked on the roads of Luhačovice, with varying results. Most of the bicycles were in good working order, with a few cyclists found by officers not to have safety features on their bikes. The owners pointed out this obligation and handed them a list of mandatory bicycle equipment on the spot. A positive finding during the checks was that children accompanied by their parents remembered to follow the rules of the road
and behaved safely during the summer holidays.
