Reconstruction of the bus station will start in May

According to the expected schedule of works prepared by the contractor COLAS CZ, a.s. from Zlín, the construction will physically start in the first week of May and will be completed after 20 weeks in September 2020. The complexity and scope of the construction requires a complete closure of the bus station and its surroundings. The bus stops will be moved to an alternative location behind the railway station (on part of the existing car and bus parking area) for the duration of the construction.

Detour routes will be marked for vehicular traffic through the surrounding streets. In order to facilitate the traffic situation, the local road ul. U Šťávnice (in normal traffic it is a one-way road in the direction from ul. Masarykova towards the church). It will also mean temporary cancellation of longitudinal parking spaces in this street.

The construction will be divided into 3 stages. In the first stage, Nádražní Street (the link from the library to the railway station and further left towards the bus stops) will be passable in both directions of travel, with a minimum width of 5.5 m. Construction work will also take place on the pavements, but access to the buildings in the closed section will always be maintained. During this longest stage, the roadway structures will be removed, furniture will be dismantled, new street drains will be connected, new routes for public lighting cables will be laid, and new structural layers of the roadway and pavements will be laid.

In the 2nd and 3rd stages, ul. Nádražní (the link from the library to the station and further to the left towards the replacement bus stops) will be passable under partial closure, traffic will be controlled by traffic lights.

The expected timing of the stages is as follows. The construction of the transport terminal includes a new bus station with a roundabout. It also includes the implementation of related elements improving transport safety, such as barrier-free pedestrian roads, pedestrian crossings, public lighting. Mitigation and compensation measures are also included to minimise negative environmental impacts, specifically the planting of accompanying greenery. The project includes the implementation of new B+R (bike and ride) parking spaces for bicycles and four K+R (kiss and ride) parking spaces for cars, enabling the connection of individual car transport to public transport in the form of short-term stopping places for cars. The new bus shelters will be fitted with green roofs, which will trap moisture and improve the climate in the area," said Deputy Mayor Jiří Šůstek.
