Unruly drivers will be monitored by cameras in the centre of Luhačovice

Drivers who violate traffic regulations in the centre of Luhačovice will have a break from the beginning of March. New cameras have been installed in Masarykova Street at the junction to U Št'ovnice Street to monitor motorists' driving. Drivers often make illegal turns at this location, drive into oncoming traffic in a one-way street and endanger pedestrians at the crosswalk.

Drivers have been disrespecting traffic signs in the centre of Luhačovice for a long time. The indiscipline of some drivers has often been responsible for traffic collapses at this intersection. Drivers heading from Uherský Brod waited for cars to cross from the roundabout towards Dolní Lhota and then turned despite the ban.

"That's why we have currently placed a permanent automated camera system here, which will not only monitor the ban on left turns, but we will also monitor the ban on entering the one-way street from the Elektra Cultural and Congress Centre," explained the mayor of Luhačovice, Marian Ležák.

The newly installed cameras will be launched in early March and are focused on checking compliance with the traffic signs that prohibit vehicles from turning left from the main Masarykova Street intersection into U Štiavnice Street.

Another camera is currently being implemented to monitor compliance with the no-entry ban in the adjacent one-way street U Št'avnice.

"The safety cameras are intended to act as a preventive measure and at the same time their activities respond to suggestions received by the city police and the management of the city hall. Especially local citizens, but also visitors complained about the repeated disregard of traffic signs by drivers in the area, which has long appeared to be very risky," added the commander of the Luhačovice Municipal Police Michal Zámečník.
